Cyber Essentials Certification

At Obsidian Networks, our Cyber Essentials assessors are IASME certified and experienced in providing accurate accreditations. Before your assessment, we’ll review your business and work with you to make sure that your organisation is ready to pass and ensure that it’s a simple process. If changes need to be made and you’re not quite ready, we won’t submit your application until you are so that you won’t have to redo the review.

The Cyber Essentials certification helps to protect organisations against 80% of common cyber attacks. Since only 8% of businesses in the UK are currently certified, you’ll be ahead of the curve and able to provide security for your clients. It can even save you money! Insurance companies ask for the Cyber Essentials certification, and you’ll receive a cheaper rate in return, often covering the entire certification cost or more.

Why Get Cyber Essentials Certification?

Cyber Essentials demonstrates that your business or organisation has implemented the five main controls, allowing you to withstand most cyber attacks. On top of this, it:

  • Permits you to work with the UK government
  • Improves supply chain security
  • Enables you to win new business
  • Reassure stakeholders that you are committed to the safety of your business and your customers

Cyber Essentials Checklist

There are a wide range of systems that are reviewed during a Cyber Essentials assessment. Our IASME-certified assessors test and review these to ensure that you’re adequately protected against the most common cyber threats. Below, we’ve included a list of areas that we will review.

We will assess whether or not you have firewalls in place to protect you from unauthorised access to your network. We will also check if this is configured correctly and updated regularly with up-to-date security patches.

Secure Configuration

One of the most important aspects of this section is to check whether you have a process for regularly reviewing and updating the security configuration of your software and devices. This includes passwords and their management, as well as multi-factor authentication.

Access Control

We’ll check that you have a process in place to grant and revoke access to your systems and databases and review those granted access and if their access is necessary. We’ll then check how you monitor user activity for suspicious behaviour.

Malware Protection

This section requires up-to-date antivirus and anti-malware software installed on all of your devices, regularly scanning your devices for malware, and having a process in place for responding to malware incidents.

Update Management

Here, we’ll assess if you regularly install security updates for all of your operating systems and software, your process for testing and deploying security updates, and your process for tracking and remedying security vulnerabilities.
