Cyber Essentials Checklist
There are a wide range of systems that are reviewed during a Cyber Essentials assessment. Our IASME-certified assessors test and review these to ensure that you’re adequately protected against the most common cyber threats. Below, we’ve included a list of areas that we will review.
Firewalls
We will assess whether or not you have firewalls in place to protect you from unauthorised access to your network. We will also check if this is configured correctly and updated regularly with up-to-date security patches.
Secure Configuration
One of the most important aspects of this section is to check whether you have a process for regularly reviewing and updating the security configuration of your software and devices. This includes passwords and their management, as well as multi-factor authentication.
Access Control
We’ll check that you have a process in place to grant and revoke access to your systems and databases and review those granted access and if their access is necessary. We’ll then check how you monitor user activity for suspicious behaviour.
Malware Protection
This section requires up-to-date antivirus and anti-malware software installed on all of your devices, regularly scanning your devices for malware, and having a process in place for responding to malware incidents.
Update Management
Here, we’ll assess if you regularly install security updates for all of your operating systems and software, your process for testing and deploying security updates, and your process for tracking and remedying security vulnerabilities.

The cost of Cyber Essentials certification depends on the size of your organisation.
